I'm guesstimating a weight of 2350lbs with 4 large adults. This includes fuel, provisions, motor (Yamaha 40-4 Stroke) and people. I'm getting somewhere around 6 to 7 miles per gallon running close to WOT. Of course with 2 adults mileage is better...

Yamaha test 16ft 1900 lbs 9" prop, 8.20 mpg @ 4000,5600 @ 19.3mph 5.08 mpg.
16ft 2030 lbs 9" prop, 5500 @ 18.7 mph 5.05 mpg.
4000 @ 11.9 mph 7 gph.
Typical rule of thumb a 40 will use about 4 gallons an hour at wide open throttle
Whether pushing a house boat or a runabout.

My prop is a 11 5/8 x 11 with the above load @ 5100 and with only 2 on board @ 5400. The way I measured the mileage was to do a Google Map distance check of the routes I traveled. I've done this for a number of trips. I can get 35 miles out of 5 gals... With only two of us at WOT its still around 7 to 8 mpg, however I'll get a few more MPH, from 14-15~ to 18~.

This is an 18' Harris. We did 2~ hours of run time between WOT and 4000rpm and used 5~ gals of fuel with the load I guesstimated. I usually empty the tank(s) and measure the extra if I'm not going out for a week or so. After getting close to empty on one trip with a single tank I purchased a second 6 gal tank...

Well when I did my test run to find out I added one gallon to a empty tank and used the trip log on my GPS. 29 minutes and 4.5 miles later it ran out.

I think your kidding us. A 50 hp outboard will use "about" 5 gallons per hour at wot.Whether pushing a house boat or a race boat.
Two Honda efi tests a 16ft pontoon 19 mph at 5.2 gph, 1gph @ 3.3 mph, 21 ft pontoon 18 mph at 5.4 gph.,1gph @ 4.2.mph

Some of you guy's must be dragging an anchor while running. My 90 hp merc two stroke does way better then that and it's pushig a 24 ft Starcraft. I can go out on a day's run go twenty miles one way ,putt around with the rafts on the back, come back later in the day . and when I add fuel It may take 6 gallons. Now, I'm in tidal waters, so the tide helps some. Some times I'm running 4400 rpm some times I at 2500. depending on the winds and tides. It gets pretty rough on the Chesapecke bay.

20 foot Godfrey with 85hp 2 stroke Yamaha.....about 12 to 15 miles on a 6 gallon tank. I live at the end of a river/lake that is 14 miles long and I have to switch tanks to make it home.

the only way to know is to put 1 gallon in a tank and run till it stops. And use a GPS in trip log mode.

My 18' Party Barge with a 75hp 4 stroke Merc holds 37 gallons of gas. I drive it until I hit about 1/4 tank, then fill it up again. I'm having way too much fun to calculate my gallons per hour. Same riding the Harleys, have no idea what the fuel mileage is. My F150 gets 14.5mpg, the little read-out on the dash says so, otherwise I wouldn't know that one either. If I was driving a Toyota Carolla I'd figure it out, have to have some reason for driving that piece of crap.
