Fuel primer sucking in

Another problem on my in-laws boat. It's a 1986 Grady 19 Tournament with a 1996 Johnson 150 Oceanmaster on it. I was running it the other day and the buzzer went on so I shut it down. Let it sit a few minutes and it ran again. After a few more minutes the buzzer went on again. I notice the fuel primer was all sucked in. It has a brand new fuel filter. Thanks - Mark

or bulb backwards, arrow points to engine.

The buzzer can indicate a fuel restriction. Since you just installed a fuel filter, i would start there. If you installed an in-line automotive filter, it may be too small or backwards.<br /><br />Plus, the other suggestions above are good ones.

It has a Racor filter on it. The mechanic they took it to just put it on. I am going to check the tank vent this weekend. I am also going to check the direction of the bulb. Do the primer bulbs go bad?

yes they do. It could also be debris clogging the pickup tube in the tank.

I replaced the primer bulb and cleaned out the fuel tank vent. Still running out of fuel above 3000 rpm. I even tried running the the fuel fill open. I tried to change the Racor filter the mechanic just put on, but it would not come off. It was overtightened and would not budge. Is it possible this filter clogged after 2 hrs? If there is something in the tank how do I clean it? The pickup tube is welded to the tank.

I would say get yourself a portable 6 gallon tank and run it on that. That will narrow it down...Then go from there...Since you just had the filter put on, that's where I would focus...

Is the filter between the tank and bulb ? Or between the bulb and fuel pump/ engine.<br /><br /> It can cause problems if its between the bulb and engine.<br /><br /> Just another thing to check.<br /><br /> Good-Luck,<br /><br /> KYHunter

you can always blow air into the hase going to the pickup tube,
