I have a 1984 Chapparral 187 with a Merc 898 that runs excelent when the tank is full but at about 3/4 it will stall out right after plaining but then imediatly restart after. I have had the carb rebuilt and the fuel pump tested and both work great. What I've come to figure is that the fuel pick-up in the tank is possibly bad so whats happening is when coming to plane the fuel in the tank shifts and then starves the carb therefore stalling the engine. My question is this has anyone ever tackled this fix before and how hard is it to pull the pick-up out of the fiberglass tank and where can I find a new part to replace it??
