long time lurker, first time poster. i really enjoy this site.

i have a 1987 mercury 35 hp that is giving me fits.the mechanic seemed to think that the motor may have set for a few years because the carb was varnished up pretty bad. it has a new fuel line and the fuel pump and the carb have just been rebuilt and the motor acts up several different ways, but with no set pattern. sometimes it is hard starting, but not always. sometimes it will not come out of the hole without dying, sometimes it will. sometimes it will just load up and die at a trolling speed and then start right back up. sometimes while approaching full speed, it will just die and then start right back up. sometimes it will be running at wide open throttle for about 10 minutes and suddenly die or if i pump the bulb before it completely dies the motor will pick back up and continue on. the bulb is semi soft when it is dying and is a little bit tighter than before i had to pump it. when it is acting up and will not start, i have to put it on fast idle/warm up to get it straightened out. any suggestions will be appreciated.
thanks,dennis

Re: fuel problems ???

You definitely have a fuel problem, I know that you and the mechanic? are not going to want to hear this but the carb and fuel pump both need attention. Also the fuel hose needs to be checked carefully.
