I just picked up a new fuel pump and was installing it. I took the old one off and left the hoses where they should just slide onto the new one. But I looked first and realized I was about to install it backwards. The clearly marked "in" connection was going to the carbs.

Now I'm positive this is the way the old one came off. But I'm also subject to making mistakes.

Can the pump work when connected backwards?

Good news is the new pump seems to have fixed a hard starting problem. Motor fired right up on muffs after only a bit of cranking and it reved right up. Before has always stuttered and sputtered for a while. Now to tryit in the lake.
