I've got a 98 Larson w/ a 350 Volvo GS (holly carbs) - the fuel pump is singing like no tomarrow - so i want to change her out before she leaves me standed.

Question - all the references I see point me to an 18-7330 to replace a 3857650 - it appears to be the only reference to a 350 but then says "engines with MPI"; My engine has a carb and the number on my existing pump reads 3850810 which cross references to an 18-7331...

Which do I buy?

Also - anything a novice should know before getting into this job? looks like an easy swap... am I naieve?

Any help greatly apprecieated..

Re: fuel pump confusion

Engines with MPI use HIGH Pressure pumps......

You need a Carb. pump,... set to 6psi...... I'd say 18-7331

Re: fuel pump confusion

Thanks Bondo - that would make sense as it would cross reference with what "appears" to be on there - I was just suprized not to see it "assiciated" w/ my engine on any of sites I searched.. it is always associated with the 454 and 502..

Anything I should know about before I take this thing loose? is fuel going to go everywhere?

Well,....

If there's Any Spillage, it Should be minimal.......

Use 2 wrenches(that Fit Properly) on the fittings on the ends.... Don't want buggered up fittings.....
No Place for Vise-Grips.......

Be gentle with the Ele. connector.....

Good Luck.....

Re: fuel pump confusion

What is the model number of your engine? It should be something like 57GSXXXX. the X's will be 4 letters, need to know the 4 letters to find out which pump you need with a Volvo number, then you can cross it to a sierra number.

Re: fuel pump confusion

I got my pump in today and plan to install it tomarrow night..

Should I put any kind for pipe tape/ locktite on the threads?

Aside from some fitting wrenches, do I need to get any other supplies?

Thanks in advance for your help

Lee

Re: fuel pump confusion

No Teflon Tape Ever in a fuel system, causes way too much trouble.
All the fittings on your pump are Oring, put new ones on, or you have about a 75% chance of them leaking. The Volvo part number is 3850820. The hose is double flared and does not need any sealer

I can't seem to cross reference ORing 3850820 anywhere locally - anyone know what size it is? Can I just pick one up at the local hardware store vs. ordering one from Volvo? seems crazy..

Thoughts?

thanks again.

Lee
