Fuel pump- merc 5.7

I got a merc 5.7 1997. The carbutator bowl fills up with gas and without stopping. We put a jet and seat, fuel pump, however the carb keeps filling up with gas. The pump has 17.5 psi, however the manual says it shouldn't be no more then 4- 7.5 psi. Can anybody give us a hand. Thanks

The pump has 17.5 psi,

No carb will stand that much pressure. What pump do you have?

Theres your problem...

Electric pump, get a regulator.

Mechanical pump, get a new pump.

The proper OEM electric fuel pump for you engine does not put out that much pressure.
Did this problem just suddenly happen to your engine during an outing, or was something changed and it then started flooding the carb?
