Fuel Pump Noise

I have a '97 3.0L Mercruiser. I'm hearing a tapping sound. Using a wooden hammer handle as a stethascope, I'm relatively sure (not positive) that it sounds like it is coming from the block around where the fuel pump bolts into the block.

It was suggested to me that the spring in the fuel pump may have gone bad, not being strong enough to hold the arm firmly against the cam shaft and allowing it to "float" some, making the tapping noise. Any thoughts?

Wait second. Hows is run? You have any other issues with the pump?

Yougins, youth is wasted on the young, who said that?

All mechanical pumps make noise. Let me repeat that. All mechanical pumps make noise.

Wonder when you heard a car engine with a mechanical fuel pump last?

But it's your money do what you want with it.

Welcome aboard!

Good luck!

Actually, it is running well and having no problems. My original concern with the noise (tapping) was that it was something that was serious and maybe about to cause me real grief.

Thanks for the input!

NONE of my mechanical pumps make noise! Neither on the boat or the CJ5 when it had one. Do you have fuel in the sight tube?

Re: Fuel Pump Noise

Haven't checked recently, but back in early summer I did and it did not.
