I replaced water separator/fuel filter. blew out vent on my 1987 88 spl, to fix what I thought was wrong. Ball started to firm up enough to get gas moving, then when starting motor ,I could tell right away wasn't getting enough fuel, when I pump bulb it starts to run fine, but then kinda bogs down then stalls. I looked at screen and gasket in fuel filter to maybe replace but they looked fine. Now I was wonder do I need a fuel filter repair kit. it seemed with the fuel filter cover off looking at the gasket that is kinda like a pizza, well 1 of the spots/slices where gone. Is it supposed to be this way. when I pump primer ball it seem like air is getting in there and not provide suction to pull out of gas tank. Please help

Put a pump repair kit in and be done with it. 20 minutes and 25 dollars. You may also need a bulb. Air will not get in the pump by squeezing bulb.

I have the seloc manual, it states the fuel pump is a not repairable, to replace unit. It can be rebuilt though with this repair kit right? I just don't want to rebuild and then still end up buying a new one

I think that manual may be talking about a vro unit. You have a simple diaphram pump. Kit 398514. Double check that though. It certainly is repairable.

Thank you, Is it pretty straight foward? I seem to have a knack for things being more difficult than they should be. I've seen these kits with, it looks like a nylon screw. Does the kit come with step by step or a exploded view?

One trick I'll add - the little nylon poppet has a long pin that passes through the housing. The OE instructions say to hold it with a flat knife while assembling in order to prevent the diaprhagm wrinkling. I found it easier to compress the spring and clamp it in place with a hemostat. It lets you hold the rest of the assembly.
