Re: Fuel Pump Vent Tube
I have a little bit of a thicker dark red colored liquid in the tube running from my mechanical fuel pump up to the carb, it is not a lot just a very small amount right where the hose leaves the pump. Is this normal and If not what causes it and if the pump needs replaced is there a difference between a marine fuel pump and auto pump? As stated it is a mechanical pump on a 5.7.
A fuel/fume tube is part of the marine design to provide a safe fuel exit in the unlikely event of a diaphragm rupture, there should not be anything in this tube and if you are having a diaphragm issue there should be no red fluid in it just gas.
Have you added any type of treatment to your fuel that would make it red??? have you sprayed or poured anything into the carb of that color that a small ammount went down the tube??
Dont replace your fuel pump yet. disconect the tube on both end clean it out and blow in it to dry it out reconnect it and try again..this is not normal and should never be happening so I doubt it is a fuel pump issue unless you have red gas
I have a 5.7 and the only place I have any red fluid is in the power steering pump, trim tab pump and they have no connection to the fuel pump. Yes there is a difference between a auto and marine fuel pump.
