fuel pump

New to the forums and boats. Just purchased a 1998 bayliner 195. I'm going to need a fuel pump. Can someone point me in the right direction. Looking to get one before the weekend. not really wanting to spend $140 for a $60 fuel pump. Anyone know a part number to a carter or some other brand i can get at a auto parts store? serial # is 0L023335. Also can anyone recommend a good plug? I'm sure mine need to be swapped out. No idea how long the PO ran it with the extra fuel pouring in the carb from the bad pump. Thanks guys.

Welcome aboard.

It's about that extra fuel running into the carb An auto pump would have filled the bilge, well until the :boom:.

Boats are not cheap to maintain. Spend the money for a marine pump, it can save the boat, your family's lives and your life.

NAPA sells marine fuel pumps/parts and NAPA is an auto parts store - Problem solved. :smile:

you need a marine fuel pump. only Napa would be able to order it, other stores do not carry marine motor parts.

Ok thanks for the help guys. I know that carter makes marine pumps with the hose barb for the weep hole to prevent this burning boat effect. I'm just having problems finding the right one for my application. I would never bypass a safety feature. Explicitly in the fuel system .

You can usually get the marine fuel pump at the local auto parts store, however it will be up to you to find the part number as they will be no help. NAPA typically has guys that know how to cross reference a part but none of the chain auto parts store have people that can do that. A few years ago I needed a fuel pump for my old MerCruiser. I found the part number, cross referenced it to the Airtex part number, dropped by my closest chain auto parts store and orders it. They had it in stock the next day, the price was right and it had the nipple for the overflow in case the diaphragm breaks.

That said, you really need to give some specifics. You bought a boat and need a fuel pump? Is that a reliable diagnosis or is that what the previous owner said? And definitely give details of symptoms and specifics on what motor is in your boat.

NAPA has the book at the counter. If the clerk can read, he can find the part number and X-reference.

Sorry I thought I put the mod and set # in the first post it’s a 1998 Bayliner 195 3.0 alpha one drive ser# 0L023335. Symptoms are fuel coming out of the tube aattached to the weep hole and going into the carb observed by me. I would really rather get a rebuild kit but if not available I would get the complete pump.
