I just bought a 1989 19 ft Smokercraft with the Mercruiser 3.0 engine.
it was running rough so i pulled the carb off the engine and found dirt and water in the bowl.
so yesterday i pulled the tank out of the boat and cleaned that. now my question is.

Should i get rid of the mechanical fuel pump with an electric one?
If so what electric fuel pump should i replace it with.

If you have a mechanical pump that's working, don't change to electric. Not worth the bother...

I dont know any reason someone would change out a $49 nearly bullet proof mechanical fuel pump for $130 worth of electric J1171 compliant fuel pump, relay and oil pressure switch that will be problematic every few years unless your block doesnt have a mechanical fuel pump mount.

Ayuh,.... If the fuel pump is in fact bad, put another mechanical pump on it,.....

A worthy addition to any boat without one, is a canister type water sep/ fuel filter though,.....

Please provide an engine serial number. From that we can source a pump number...

Chris.
