How can I test my fuel pump?
I have a 1978 or 79? 115 hp Johnson outboard. It ran fine the first couple of times out this year, then it decided to only give me half the power. It starts, idles and travels at slow speed just fine, but when I gun it same slow speed. ???
would I have to replace the whole fuel pump or can it be rebuilt?
Not sure of the year engine #J5301170 any help??

Thanks, bill

Re: fuel pump ?

Try pumping the primer bulb while under power. If you do not expierance a power loss then indications normally point to the fuel pump.

Yes, they are very easy to rebuild. There are only rubber diaphrams to replace inside it and on a difficulty scale of 1-10 I would say about a 3. Buy the kit from a dealer and ask to see the "exploded" view and you will see.

Bob
