Fuel return line

[ONEGA]

Original clear plastic fuel return line was disconnected from the carb side, too stiff and appears to be 1" too short so I need to replace it. What should I use for this? Sorry if the question is too dumb.

I think that is the fuel pump "tattle tale". If there is fuel in it then there is a problem with fuel pump. That is best replaced with oem part.
Others may know better so wait for someone to confirm or refute my info.

Be sure to use the correct part as listed above. DO NOT use tygon tubing as a replacement!!! (sorry to say, but the real mccoy is a bit pricey, but for anything engine related, pay the man!)

(Just googled the part number ( 32-7381567) and surprisingly enough the price is only 20 bucks!!! way cheaper than what a paid a year ago!!! Go figure!)

Like harleyman posted it is not a return line. It is there so that if the diaphragm in the fuel pump fails that the fuel goes into the carb. It is a safety thing. Is there fuel in the line?

I agree, don't use clear tygon tubing, but they do make Tygon fuel-lube tubing, probably the same stuff Mercruiser is using, looks the same.

Thanks folks. Just never happened to replace this thing. Thought I go grab something at local auto parts store.
No, there is no fuel in this line. It was originally disconnected and appears to be too short and is very stiff. I've replaced the exhaust elbows, starter and some other misc stuff and looking to get it running this weekend. Bought this Chaparral a little while ago and haven't heard it running yet.

Not recommended unless it is marine rated. The OEM line is "special" for a reason. Just dont use vinyl or tygon. (seen guys try to use clear tubing from the spool at Lowes.... Didnt last very long!)
