Fuel spitting out motor connector

I've got a '79 6hp Evinrude. When I disconnect the fuel hose to run the carb dry, gas spits back out of the motor. This goes on until the carb runs dry. I've never noticed this before. Do I have a fuel pump problem?

If it is spitting from the motor fuel connector at the engine the seal has gone bad or the spring has failed. Quite common.

Normal. It's called gravity. There is nothing to keep the hose from draining. That's why in some later year they changed the fuel connector design to include a valve to prevent drainback. You can put the new style connector on yours if it bothers you enough. They are only $51.00

most likely the $0.89 o-ring in the connetor is bad.

hate to bring up a point of debate thats been beaten to death in the forums, but why on earth would you repeatedly lean your two stroke out of fuel/oil by running the carb dry? jmo.....it is not a good practice and shortens the life of the motor.
