Is anyone aware of any type of fuel tank (gasoline) conditioner/treatment that will help dissolve dirt and flaking varnish. Have to change fuel filter about every 3-5 hours of running due to dirt. Removing tank is not an option. Read all the labels of the so called "additives" and I figured some of you pros would have an answer.

What Bruce said. There's nothing that will make it disappear. It has to be removed. If the tank can't be taken out and cleaned, there are outfits that can clean it in place. I've been through this and after going through a dozen filters I threw in the towel and had a service take care of it.

Drain it, filter it and reuse it. You can filter it thru tee shirt material or cheesecloth to get the large stuff. If that doesn't get it all, you can get a cleanable inline filter to screen out more of the dirt.

Do you have a water separator on your boat now? It might be a good idea to get one, after you have this resolved.

Thanks for the replies. Yes on the water separator/filter. This and the mesh screen inside the carb are the only filters. I know what I need to do now.
