So i own a 23 year old wellcraft with a 4.3 merc in it. I was having water in fuel, so I put a fuel water seperator on her. Also i have fixed the water getting into fuel issue. I think. I have had nothing but trouble with the fuel system since. The engine just cuts out while on plane. I can pull back on the throttle and most of the time she will run ok . When I take the seperator off, i hear air release. This makes me think that for some reason the seperator is restricting the flow of fuel. Am i crazy. The seperator i have is the kit which has the mount and the filter. There is no bowl to drain.help

Sounds like the fuel tank vent is plugged up.

Weird thing is that the care make a different sound when the problem ia happening. I almost like a louder air sucking sound. I thought it was just during off water.

Re: fuel vacuum problem

This post is a little hard to follow -- but perhaps you could hook up a fuel pressure gauge & monitor it while the problem occurs. ( make sure it does not leak for fire safety reasons )

If the pressure does drop you most likley have a restiriction of some type that could be caused by debris blocking a passage. filters & the check valve in the barbed fitting coming off the tank pickup are common areas.

If the pressure does not drop the problem it inside the carb or elswhere.
