I changed the F/W filter on my 2004 Yamaha 50HP last week. It came with a Black filter with yellow writing (it didn't have a brand name on it) I put the appropriate Sierra filter on and got a chance to hit the lake this morning. At WOT my motor stumbled a bit. It ran great at all other speeds.

I noticed the old filter said it filtered down to 28 microns, and the new Sierra filters down to 21 microns. Could the new filter be causing some fuel starvation?

i would think no. a quick fuel vacuum test will tell you though. coincidence? how old are your spark plugs?

Re: Fuel/water seperator question

hello
while some 10 micron filters are unsuitable for large v6 2 strokes the fuel flow reqirements of a small 4 stroke should be fine with a 21 micron. in fact on the 4 strokes i reccomend a 10 micron element.
like Benc says a quick vacum test will tell.
