i have come into posesion of an oldish 2hp evinrude. What fuel does it need and where do i get it?

Hello Ark<br />An oldish 2 horse is rather a broad term.<br />Maybe you can find the model # on the top of the transom bracket so we know what we are dealing with.Because it could be anywhere between 1:16 to 1:50.

60's old, or really old?<br /><br />Regular gasoline (I forget your octane system there), mixed 50:1 with TCW-III oil. Unless it's really (antique) old, in which case 24:1 or better.<br /><br />Post your model number and we can tell you the year.<br /><br />EDIT: Pardon the collision, rolmops! Damn!

i will look it up - yet to get it - so can't yet inspect it. I recall something being said about 50:1 leaded. is this making sense

Lead never did any good for a 2-stroke. Use unleaded, regular 91 RON gas mixed with TCW-III outboard oil. Mix ratio depends on the model.

Hi, Ark.<br /><br />If your engine is a 1964 or later, 50:1 is the mix. If it is before 1964 the mix is 24:1.<br /><br />In either case use unleaded regular gas and TCW-3 rated outboard oil.<br /><br />Good luck.

I am in the UK, so is TCW III oil the same as 2 stroke? I am fairly sure its a 50;1 motor

ark,There are two stroke water cooled engine oils and two stroke air cooled engine oils.TCW3 is simply Two Stroke Watercooled.

I'll post the details when i get the motor to se what you all make of them, but what would you recommend i did to give it a basic health check upon receipt. A basic run down of the checks to do before giving it a first pull start.

outboard data:<br /><br />on the clamp: 2402e c53929<br />on engine: C0053928<br />on the pull start drum: Gt-580892-52 D1<br /><br />The archive gives an age of 1974 - is this correct. And the controls are a little worn, so where would i get a useful guide to how to set the controls. The lever below the pull start drum says - stop, start and fast?

Can anyone tell me what the controls are for. I can see the throttle handle on top, but there are two knobs at the top. One at the top seems to say choke, but i have another which is not clear and one at the bottom which says rich or lean.<br /><br />The motor turns over fine but no life as yet.

motor will tun, there is a spark, but it won't come to life. Is this type of motor supposed to have a clutch. I can't see one and have to attempt to start it with the prop rotating. is this right? Fuel is getting to the engine and the cylinder I pull start it on turns well enough and seems to have compression? What next
