walleyehed.
I know, and you wont believe how many bad system check and omc tachs I had to replace and how many were bad out of the box,
that and shamrocks used faria for years and we had a lot of issues with them. I understand they have redesigned most of it now.
I have no idea who is making the tachs for BRP but BRP does not accept near as much shoddy parts from vendors that OMC did.

Re: Full Throttle Operating Range

Interesting, I have been chasing a RPM issue now for 2 years.... I ruled the tach out because I installed a new teleflex vector tach when i had the motor rebuilt in "03"

So in your seasoned opnions, if I were to buy a tach today whos would you recommend???

Last season with DHadley's advise i ruled out pretty much everything else that could effect WOT RPM. I take my boat to the shop Saturday for a sync & link, timing check, and tach verification.

So if the tach is bad, i would like to know what ya all recommend..

I have run 2 Beede's that seem to be relatively accurate, but I would still recommend the BRP tach (Johnson/Evinrude OEM)

It will be interesting to see how they verify the tach. They could just look at it and make sure its on the right setting. Or they could hook up a shop tach (takes about 2 minutes) and verify it without putting it in the water. Or they could do it right and run the motor at wot with the shop tach hooked up and compare it to the dash tach.

Make sure to ask which proceedure they use. Keep us posted.

All good points DHadley.... I discussed with them having it ran on the dyno to make sure the motor is performing with-in or above spec. Also I did verify the tach was set correctly (position 6 I believe)

So I would assume they will do it at WOT on the dyno...

I will verify and post back...
Can I get the BRP (johnnyrude) tach here on i-boats?
