I have a problem that's driving me nuts, i have a fuel smell coming from the center console, its not real strong but strong enough to have me concerned. I pulled the fuel gage from the tank and the gasket looked bad so i replaced it thinking i'd found the culpret, nope its still there. I tested the vent tube and its not blocked but it has me puzzled, i smell no fumes whatsoever from the vent tube.

Do i need to bite the bullet and replace all three hoses? If so it looks to be a tough job the access hole above the tank is a 6" circle.

The boats a 2002, not that old, the tank is a poly and i can find no gas leaks in the bilge, there is not gas film when i washed the bilge area out.

Re: Fumes in Center Console

Doesn't take much fuel to be able to smell it. Like I can fill up my riding lawn mower holding onto the nozzle of the fill can to guide it into the tank (obviously getting gas on my hand) and after washing with soap and water I can still smell gas on my hand.

You may have a "moist" connection on your fuel lines somewhere.....moist enough to have evaporating gas, but not enough to actually produce a droplet.

Inspection and tightening of all connections would be in order.

Also, there may be a ventilation loop somewhere so that fuel vapors, vented properly circle around and wind up in the bilge. Might look at that.
