Hi All

I have a 91 OMC 5.8l carby engine on a cobra leg . Motor is running find except for a minor flat spot when giving it some revs , but the big problem is the excess of gas fumes in the cabin , I run the motor with the covers off and cannot for the life of me see any fuel leaks ..any Ideas ps machine has blowers but dosnt really help the smell

Is the smell always present or only when you are running the engine? Are there any access ports for you to inspect the tank and fuel lines and vent lines?

Do you have a fuel filter in a remote location that may be leaking? Gasket between the tank and fuel sender unit?

+1, really inspect the filling hose and the vent hose.
As well feel around the tank in the areas you cannot see for leaking fuel (could be a pin hole somewere)

You shouldn't use the boat until you solve the problem. It is an explosion and fire just waitng
for ignition.I once saw a 20 footer burn to the waterline from stray fumes ignited.

Are they raw gas fumes or burn your eyes exhaust gas fumes? That may narrow down your search some. But I agree. fix it before you run it anymore.

Jacko what you are describing sounds to me as if you really need to rebuild your carb, ask me how I know

any decent mechanic and a couple hundred US dollars
