Fusable leads for OMC tilt motor

I need a fused link that comes of an assist solenoid for the tilt motor on an OMC Stringer. It looks like a lump of melted rubber. My manual states that it is a 100 amp fuse.

Can I just replace this with an inline fuse from a more modern era?

How can anyone help if they do not know the year and dirve model. The stringer serries 400 or 800 used two 50 amp fuses but this sound like something before the Stringer serries.

I'm pretty sure mine does not have a 100A single inline fuse. I have two 50A like mentioned.

Sorry, forgot to state the important stuff. It is a 1976 GM straight 6 165 hp with an OMC Outdrive which I think is the electric shift. (I am very new at this). The wiring diagram for the 165 says it is a 100 amp. I was wondering if I can use a more modern 100 amp fuse or do I have to search out an old style lump.

I to have the problem with the old style lump The old timer on my block called it a chery fuse and i found a marina thats got a couple but he wants $70 for one I hope i can replce it with something else? Did your book give you a part # for the lump?

thats what i was thinking but i dontknow how many amps it was it was in the only line that comes out of my alternator and i did not know if the ceramic that is in there acts as some sort of resister or diode of some kind i dont want to fry my alternator, i tried touching the wires together with that fuse not in there and the wires started melting is that normal??

No - it will start a fire- that's why a fuse blows - to prevent the fire.

A blown fuse is NEVER the cause of a problem. It is the result of a short to ground or overload. The short to ground or overload needs to be corrected before installing a new fuse or the new fuse's life will be measured in milliseconds......

Like KJD said; you have a short. And a fuse is a fuse, or can be a circuit breaker. Replace it with one of the same size; but find the short to ground first.

I have recently discoverd that my alternater is bad i read a thread that said there are diodes inside that go so i will have the alternater rebuilt could that be the problem or did my Alt go bad because of the same short that blew the fuse?? does the external voltage regulter play some possible role in this? If there is a short were do i begin to look for the it? the engine runs fine the Batteries are run in series both brand new with brand new wires. Also when i went to go adjust the timeing it shocked the sh@# out of me do i have a grounding problem? I have worked on plenty of old cars but this old boat thing is throwing me for a loop!! thanks for all the help the boat is a 77 Crestliner nordic 22 with a omc 175hp V8 (ford 302) I checked and adjusted the dwell and the timing and set the idel speed and cleaned the carb now i just need to get the charging system fixed and i can finnaly go fishing!!! thanks again

Bad alt will screw it up; shocked the ** sounds like leaky plug wires.
