fwc conversion for chev 305

hi i have a 1980 marlin i/o 19 ft bowrider and i want to put fwc on it during its winter resto. i know check the store here got that. any brands in particular. how about a nice used set up.....i know not likely, had to ask has a 305 mercruiser i think its a good idea...opinions jim

Mfg specs suggest you don't install fresh water cooling on an engine with over 125 hrs or 1 year whichever comes first. I think you're over both.

how about if the motor and drive are rebuilt? it seems like a better way to go is why i am asking

Rust in the engine cooling system will flake off and plug the heat exchanger. On the side you can't clean out. Try it if you want, you will have about of a 50/50 chance of it working. All you loose is the cost of the heat exchanger,

So no back flush on those systems I'm guessing. The tubes are fairly small I take it? Ill have to see what shape we are in when I tear down...thanksgivings jim
