You can do the sand papir trick there too, but only a little ( fast learner huh ! ) Remember the housing straightens when you tighten it down and you want to have room for the impeller to spin, but a little wont hurt, if you have scars on the sealing surface. Who's rippin' you off like that ? Almost as bad as here in DK. What can happen to the spacer tube ?

Andrew, never apologise for dropping in.Always welcome. In fact,I've taken such a liking to you,I forget your a Victorian. LOL.
If you can post Golden shower seals details, that would be great.Thanks.Also,what crap do you have to go thru to land parts from the states? Coz everything is painfully cheap there.Priced a prop recently...US$60 which equates to about 90 of ours, and the shop wanted $200 for it. Of the two words I said to him,the second one was "off".
Dane, yeah I'm wandering around the house with my sandpaper and glass sheet with that honing look in my eye. The housing was just a little out of flat.No scars, but now it looks great. The tube is melted a little at the impeller end,but it is still round at the end. It's supposed to keep exhaust gasses out of the impeller, isn't it? I think all I need do is change the O rings.
As far as who is ripping us off, when we walk into our parts shop,I'm sure they get the same sort of capitalist triumph as a door to door viagra salesman as he canvasses the old folks home !!.
Curiously,an OMC dealer told me my problem was more than likely caused by a plastic bag caught on my leg,and not by the head gasket blowing. This is the same guy who wanted $160 for the impeller kit !. 2 plus 2 =
Thanks guys...

Andrew,
I did the logical thing & went to www.goldenseal....
Got their number and called.they are actually a few bucks dearer on the impeller kit !
But,it's still good sense to have a back up supplier. All is not lost. They seem like nice enough people.
How's your problem going??

Take care..

Re: G Dane,Paul Moir Help please...

rosco, i sanded my heads back last night in the dining room and had the same look in my eyes.LOL. Look great though so i'm glad i did it. I have actually bought quite a few parts from Go2marine.com, the only reason i haven't used iboats is they won't deliver to AUS. I got a compleate water pump kit including delivery for $112AU. I have also bouht a few things from e-bay shops and paid with Paypal. Delivery is reasonable. As long as the cost is under $500 you don't pay import duty. The only thing I got cheaper here was the smarttabs. Props on go2marine are 1/3 the price we pay here.BTW make sure you change the seal in the shaft housing in the water pump.

Ah... A Mexican compliment !! Grazie signor.
Yeah, when your next up here, let me know.If we can tee it up,a feed,a beer and a laugh always works well.
You might have to buy some summer clothes first, but. You know,t-shirts short sleeves etc ?.
O.K ,I'll send you some photo's.Actually, let me know if I have to do photo's of just the clothes ,or the whole summer concept.
That's enough,rosco.Just razzin.
I'll bet when you come here in October it'll be 14c,just to shut my smartmouth up.

Sounds good. Got some good news. I have water pumping around my system finally.the thing that was causing the probs appeared to be the vernatherm valve. Seat hole was too deep. When I replaced that everything worked. Now I just need to get out on the water!! Hopefully next weekend

Re: G Dane,Paul Moir Help please...

Hi everybody !!
After a long absence, finally got all the bits together, and some free time.
Will put it all together this weekend.
2 quick questions.....
Do I put any sealer, etc on the head gasket ??? I think it's better without.
Also my spacer tube has a bit melted down near the impeller. It is a small area above the O ring/end moulding that fits in the top of impeller housing. It has not melted any holes through,so there is no gas escape. The end bit {o ring }is undamaged, and fits the housing perfect. If this tube's job is to exclude exhaust gas,it will still do it... do you think I should change it ? Is it normally under high pressure or heat ? If it is not too intense,it will be fine.

All advice appreciated.
Thanks
:)

Re: G Dane,Paul Moir Help please...

No sealer on the head gasket. Make sure that the metal is spotless, I use Isopropyl alcohol to wipe the metal down with first, to remove any oil or grease or contaminants that may be present.

When you do up the head bolts, torque them down in sequence. Tighten them to finger tight first, then half , then full. This will help prevent any warping in the head.

9 - 10
/ \ / \
5 -- 6
\ / \ /
1 -- 2
/ \ / \
4 -- 3
\ / \ /
8 -- 7

Not sure about the tube, I'm sure that someone else will know what the best course of action is with that.

Hey lark,
Thanks for keeping up.Thanks for the advice with bolts.
I'm buggered with the tube. It's hard to buy,apparently....so that's why I want to try to save it.I'm sure it's O.K.,as I said...It will certainly hold out exhaust at moderate outside pressure.Just wait & see what the boys reckon.
P.S...if you follow the nrl,I'm watching my wests tigers demolish the bulldogs...and loving it !! :D

Re: G Dane,Paul Moir Help please...

Well folks....
Put the gasket & head back together. All went well, but when I put the comp.test on it,it only reached 105 in each cyl.
It was 122 psi before, and I was really expecting higher now ,after head machining.
Will it get better after bedding in,or is this it ??
Thanks....

Re: G Dane,Paul Moir Help please...

Let it warm up, cool down to hand warm and retighten to right torque. Do a Decarb, run it a bit, and I think you will have what you had before.

Re: G Dane,Paul Moir Help please...

Well boys,
Did Dane's trick with the warm-up,and the comp.went to 110 psi in both.Didn't do the de-carb,so that may help ....
While 110 is not ideal, will it still run O.K.??
Thanks...

Re: G Dane,Paul Moir Help please...

110 is just fine, and decarb and a good run afterwards will raise it a tad more. Wanna bet ?? Run it with a little extra oil on first ride.
