ASSUMING...... yours is anything like my 5HP Eska, once you remove the flywheel you'll be able to see a slotted adjustment for the advance linkage to contact the throttle butterfly rod. <--That means you MIGHT be able to get away without having to replace that fat gasket. You should also see a scribe line on the linkage that denotes the point where the linkage should just come into contact with the throttle rod - with the twist grip set (I think) to the "start" position.

I think at the idle mark you want the rod not to touch or touch but not open any, and at start position the butterfly should be open a tad and each engine is a bit different, worse thing you can do is let the butterfly post bind at WOT, which will over time bend the brass rod and screw up your start position and WOT, @ WOT you should have about a 1/16 of play in the butterfly...the manual calls for 1/8

That's exactly what I needed to see. Thanks, mccrabs! My throttle linkage is ridiculously messed up. Without seeing it work it would have taken a while for me to figure that out. I also see what I need to do to fix the arms from the twistgrip to the cam.

What would cause the throttle shutter rod to miss the cam by a half an inch? I'm almost afraid to pull the flywheel and look.

Thanks for the info. I might not need to buy a manual with you guys around.

I don't know, I'm guessing someone before you tuned up good for yeah...LOL, you should be able to get it back in shape no problem if you follow the adjustment proccedure by the book.

Thanks, now I just need to find the time. You wouldn't know if I need to use a puller or a socket and strap wrench to pull the flywheel, would you?

I use the knock off method, simply remove the Flweel nut and starter cup, put the nut back on FLUSH put a long heavy screw driver or similiar under the flywheel around near the back side put lite pressure on that area, cover the nut and crank end with a shop towl and give as many solid smacks as it takes and it will pop off,
Warning! do not do this with the water cooled twin Eska gamefishers, they have a retaining clip that hold the bottom bearing and seal and it will simply cut it into....ask me how I know...LOL
