Hey, i'm considering buying a 1994 15 hp gamefisher 2 Stroke outboard.
Does anyone know the story about gamefisher outboards and their link to mercury outboards?

Re: Gamefisher outboards...?

Chrysler was bought out by Force, Force sold outboards to Sears who rebadged them "Gamefishers", Mercury bought out Force and then killed the brand. Sooo, you can get parts from your local Mercury dealer. Problem is, Force has been out of business for 10 years and parts are hard to find. I had to upgrade the ignition (CDI) on my outboard to the tune of $160 because parts were no longer available and lots of other parts are NLA too. Your common parts, carb kit, fuel pump kit, impeller, etc are still available.

I have a 89 7.5HP Force (de-tuned 15HP) that runs great, light and powerful for a 7.5HP. I've had good luck with mine (like new when I got it), but don't know if I'd suggest buying one seeing how parts are hard to find. If I had the chance to buy a Evinrude/Johnson or Merc for the same price I'd go that route.

How much are they asking for it and what is the cosmetic/mechanical condition?

Unless it was REAL cheap I would avoid it. Parts and service are tough to get for those.

Yeah, if your not going to work on it yourself forget about buying it as I've heard the shops won't touch Force (Gamefisher) outboards, lack of parts is probably the #1 reason. Call up a few shops before you buy and see what they say about doing a tune-up on one, then make your decision.
