I have a 30 hp Johnson Seahorse Model # RDE 30. When replaceing coils is it necessary to cap the distance between coils and magnet on fly wheel? Also, can you tell me what plugs are the proper one to use and the gap. Thanks for any help.

Put a straight edge on the mag plate where the coil sits and line up the edges of the coil with the mag plate. Then tighten down the coil screws. Can't find your model in my book but I would guess J4J or J6C Champion for your mtr, .030 plug gap.

Yep, don't set the coil heels right up against the flywheel...as boobie says, use a straight edge to make sure the edge of the coil heel is flush with the edge of the boss/mounting spot when you tighten down the coil bolts. If the coils drag on the flywheel, you won't get any spark.
