Hi, has anyone experienced their Garmin not powering up? Worked fine, now I hit the power button and nothing. I've checked and there's good ground and power going to the unit. This is an expensive problem if I can't get it to turn on...not only do I lose my numbers, but I'm planning on Bimini next month and need the unit. The unit is probably 7 years old. Thoughts?

Hold the button down a few secs.

Check the inline fuse on the power lead. Use a test light to see if you're getting power all the way to the back of the unit. If so, use a multimeter to see if you're getting 12+v to the unit. Maybe discharged battery supplying 9-10v?

Here is a download link for the manual, which includes a troubleshooting section:

what you've described is a pretty problem with Garmin chartplotters.

The in-line fuse holders that Garmin supplies are junk. I make a point to replace them on every installation I've done. Replace it with a good quality holder and try again.

If the tips above don't solve your problem, I'm sure your marine dealer will be happy to supply you with a new unit. Seven years is a long time for those things. If I were on the way to Bimini, I'd want something I could count on, not something that might work or might not work, you know...

And, by the way, how's that rough-running Yamaha doing? Did you get that fixed before your Bimini run?
