I have a 1987(i think) Mercury 9.9hp 2stroke that seems to be leaking gas. The other day I had a hard time starting the engine until it finally cranked, but it just did not seem to have the pep it had a couple of weeks ago when I was out. I was out all day fishing, and it cranked everytime on the first pull through out the day. On the ride back to the boat ramp, I noticed it being even more sluggish than it was earlier that day. When I got home to check out the motor, I noticed fuel leaking out of the top of the fuel filter. If I pumped the gas, fuel would start to pour out. I am going to take it out this weekend to troubleshoot the issue and thought it might need a good carburetor cleaning before hand??? I am no expert when it comes to this kind stuff, but want to be able to fix it without taking it in to someone.... It sounds like a simple solution since it was still starting and running before getting home.
