2001 150 Johnson-gas leaking from bottom left carburetor [gas leaking through the open black throat that is exposed when the plastic air filter is off] while trying to prime. What are the possible reasons and solutions? Thank you

My fingers were faster than my mind.
Could also possibly be bad a gasket or warped bowel if they are the plastic type.

Would carburetor cleaner possibly work on stuck needle or do you think the carburetor should come off- gasket and bowel will also be looked into if the spray method is not advisable or does not work-looking to do easy things first? Thank you

If the motor has been sitting for some time you could try tapping on the bowel to see if it will break free. But at the end of day it’s not the right thing to do. Your call.

It is a bowl and not a " bowel " I think.-----Easy to take carburetor apart for inspection.-----And yes you need to inspect bowl for warpage.----Fairly common issue on them.
