Okay, I have a sensible side to me and I have been driving a diesel Jetta and getting between 40 (in town) and 50 (highway) mpg. The price of diesel has reached $2.05 a gallon and I have noticed with less additives (anti-gelling like kerosene).<br /><br />The price of reg gas is at 1.69 and super at 1.94, I figure the fuel prices won't slow down so I am hanging on to my diesel.<br /><br />Bob

Gas for cars is about 1.72 a gallon. <br /><br />Imagine for our bigger boat. Figure roughly 1 grand in fuel for our boat. and its something like twin 400 gallons. <br /><br /> REMEMBER: The only time when you have TOO MUCH FUEL, Is when your on FIRE!!! <br /><br />JAZZ

Never fails to amaze me. One of the OPEC countries hiccups and the dam oil companies use it as an excuse to jack up prices. Mention the possibility of making a parking lot out of one of these countries and we may as well start walking. On the other hand, I suppose I should be glad of the prices we pay because we, as I understand it, pay less for fuel than most other countries around us and abroad. Still jerks my chain though.

What's amazing is how every service station seems to run out of the gas they purchased at the previous lower price simultaneously.

Most of the price increase can be attributed to the lack of production in Venezuela, which just happens to be the 4th largest oil importer to the USA.<br /><br />Stations I have info about; Get notified as to what the price will be for them to fill their tanks the next time. They then raise their price to cover the anticipated bill. They claim they lower the price when the next tankerful is expected to cost less. But I believe they often drag their feet when lowering the price.

Commodities trade based on all sorts of information--some of it real, some of it rumor, some of it who knows why.<br />I have been trading commodities for a living forever, and I can honestly say that the price has absolutely nothing to do with the cost of production (except at times when the price goes so low that some cease production)<br /><br />It is purely supply and demand, and sometimes holding production off the market in anticipation of reduced supply or increased demand. Ask California in the last electricy crisis.<br /><br />Why is it, do you think, that when there is a hurricane in Florida, the price of plywood increases in Duluth!<br /><br />It is free enterprise and open markets at work--buy less gas, have refineries start building unsold inventories, and prices will drop. It matters little whether Oil is at $40 or $20 a barrel--unless of course refineries shut down due to high costs.

FYI 92 octane premium was $1.97 at Sunoco and<br />$1.62 at the Indian res. in upsate NY.

Just an update on the gas prices in Saanichton B.C.. Premium has hit $1.02 a liter or $4.63 a gallon. Dammit!

Just came from the gas dock here on Long Island. <br /><br />Guess what, regular marine fuel (89 oct.) - $2.35/gal. , <br />super marine fuel - (92 oct.) 2.48/gal. <br /><br />That will definetly keep my from going to the inlet every weekend. <br /><br />And the guy there said that he expects prices near $3/gal. by summer. <br /><br />This will definitly be a tough boating season.

I guess we Americans shouldn't complain (too much). <br /><br />Gasoline is the only product on the planet that, until recently, cost less than it did 28 years ago (Arab oil embargo 1973).<br /><br />Besides, when the US/Iraq war is over in a week or two, things will get back to normal

Yes, supply and demand. Despite all of our tecnological innovations and options today the average car on the road is bigger and less fuel efficient per mile than those of the past, when gas was cheap. People didn't use to use trucks, SUVs and vans as personal daily transportation. Now they're everywhere.<br /><br />I'm kind of hoping the price of fuel will encourage people to be a little more responsible about their vehicle choices, but I doubt it. Hey, aren't we supposed to conserve resources during wartime?<br /><br />Considering what you can really get out of a gallon of gas it's still very cheap energy, we just choose to push around four ton dinosaurs with it.<br /><br />My wife and I use about ten gallons of fuel per week, so we're not hurting. Sure it'll cost more to get the boat on the river this summer but that's a luxury anyhow.

Used to be that big vehicles were just a social status ($$$).<br /><br />There was a shrink on 60 Minutes that says that people are now buying F350's and Hummers, because there is a "Get the hell out of my way, or I will flatten you!" mentality, people are associating with war.<br /><br />Hmmm, I wonder what the Hummer lease payments will be if add on the machine guns

I have 2 diesel trucks and a diesel tractor and the last time I got diesel, I paid $1.49 for it so I think I will keep driving them for a while.<br /><br />Now my vans in the courier service are gas so I have to pay the big dollars for their useage.

1.69 / gallon 87octane gasoline<br />1.69 / gallon o ctane drinking water<br />.99 + tax = 1.07 litre drinking water<br /><br />I dont get it gas is still cheaper than drinking water at the c-store yet the people still buy it (water) go figure. the anallagys are endless the fact is gasoline is cheap here in the states...<br /><br />I know this is going to upset some and this is not my intent so save the comments and face the facts, we got it good compared to most all the rest of the world.
