Put some spark plugs in it! It should run!

If you would give a little more info on your motor you might get better responses, year, model, injected or carbureted and keep in mind that all advise given here is free and is meant to help. Critics are welcome. Sarcasm and insulting comments are not.
With that said; Capt Bob is right but maybe he could have ellaborated a little more.
There should be some fuel in all the cylinders. That is what the plugs ignite.
If the plugs are out while cranking the motor, the fuel may very well come out the spark plug hole it has to go somewhere when it is compressed.

chaboot,It sounds to me like you might need a carburetor rebuild. With all your plugs out I dont think you should create enough vacuum to draw fuel from your carb.Ive done compression tests before and never had this happen.Hope this helps a little.Good Luck.Jonny

Since you only stated the obvious...something that should occur to some degree anyway, I did the same. I meant to be slightly humourous. Should have added a smiley face, I guess. If you have a problem with your engine, post more information. If you do not have a problem except fuel spraying from cylinders when the plugs are removed...put them back. You will only get speculation here if you do not state a problem such as "my engine idles rough and when I checked compression gas is shooting out the plug hole". Did you have all of the plugs out or only #6? Does the engine run ok or not? Are you sure it was fuel?

Re: Gas Shooting Out Spark Plug Hole

After reading your previous posts, which did give a little more information here are my suggestions.

I assume you have checked the timing and ignition system including new plugs and the motor still will not run without knocking and bogging down.

Next is a carb rebuild and don't forget to clean/replace the fuel filters. As you just got the boat are you sure the fuel is OK, you might want to drain it and start with fresh.

Did you perform a compression check while you had the plugs out? If not you should and post the results.

What kind of oil pressure do you have? That knocking noise under load could be the bottom end bearings.

Finally did you eliminate the Universal joint as suggested by Beernutz?

Not everyone has the time to check out your previous posts to piece the story together. I would suggest in future that you repeat all the motor details and relevant information in each post.

Hope this helps

Patient: "Doc, it hurts when I do this"

Doctor: "Then don't do that"

:) :) :)

Chaboot

Apparently the no. 6 spark plug hole is the only cylinder for which this is occuring. Otherwise, you would have told us, right?? And if this is so, it would seem ideas LIKE fuel injection, which is common to all cylinders, would not be the prob.

I am new to boat motors, so have limited knowledge, next to zero. :( However, it would seem fuel would be in the form of a mist by the time it reaches the cylinder head. Is this right guys? If so, and you are actually getting fuel SPURTING out, then that is not normal. A big help, I know.

Back to the common fuel injection idea. If a valve was not opening (in that type of engine), then it seems like an injection charge could be directed out the spark plug hole. Bunch of conjecture and BS on my part.

My last point is... As a misplaced Tennessean, I find it appalling to see a fellow Tennessean act in such a manner. Or..... were you from elsewhere???

Billy Bob
