Has anyone ever used HTS 2000 for aluminum gas tank repair? I bought this 17ft imperial with a 115 merc for a $100. A custom fuel tank will cost $350. to $450. This is just a fuel tank!!!! If anyone can share any imput on this product, it will be very appreciated.

Re: Gas Tank & HTS 2000

I've never used the product, but I think success would depend on the nature of the damage. I imagine a a split seam could be successfully repaired, for example, but perforation from corrosion would be a problem since most of the thickness of the metal may be gone, and other areas could give way the first time you fill the tank with gas.

Instead of a custom tank, my suggestion would be to measure your tank and find a stock tank that will fit the space. Iboats sells a large selection of fuel tanks. I wouldn't scrimp on this; fuel in the bilge is no laughing matter. Besides, you already got a great deal on the boat so you should be able to justify spending a bit to do a proper job.

Re: Gas Tank & HTS 2000

Thanks Bob, I did look at the tanks from iboats and one almost will fit, but the fill and vent tube is pointing at the wrong side of the back end of the boat. The boat came from craigs list, although it seemed like it was in bad shape, it took me 2 hours to get the v-6 running on all six.(it has been sitting since 2002 and the transam was rotton and the floor had a tree growing in it.(I'm not kidding) well, I'm almost done the floor, with out a gas tank) I may have to stop for the winter.if you would like to see some pics of my boats re-birth, I have some. See Ya, Mike
