Gasket between outdrive and pivot??

VP SX-S
First time removing outdrive. I'm not the original owner and I know it has been removed in the past.
Upon removing, in addition to the seal that fits directly around the water port (I think in a groove), it had the large gasket between outdrive and pivot. My kit does not include the large one.
Question: does it need it? I've read on this forum that it does/doesn't. Anyone can confirm?

I have a sx-m, no gasket either. 1st time i took mine off, thought the same thing.

Dannys- Thank you, that's what I expected, but when I saw it on there it threw me. Someones previous work I guess.

Bellows had small crack/hole near where the clamp screw locates at the 2 o'clock position.. Seems common (per this forum), but why always there, and any preventative measures.

Don't turn your drive while it's tilted that far up.

Apologies for not seeing the SX-S I had scrolled down and it must have been off the screen.

As the others had stated there should not be a gasket. The seal for the upper bellows is made by the nose of the drive on the bellows, be careful to make sure the bellows are seated correctly at both ends, there is a groove on the transom shield that mates with a rib inside the bellows. The hose clamp sits over this and keeps it in place. Do not over tighten the clamp as it can cut into the bellow and lead to a leak. Plenty of grease should be applied to the six studs as they can build up corrosion and make removing the drive difficult.

Thanks all for the information and advice. Got the gimbal changed, checked alignment, greased ujoints, changed lower unit oil. Will reassemble in the next day or so, with no gasket.
Only thing I would add to the great advice I've received here is to get the alignment checking bar in and out of the splines/coupler while the gimbal is removed. Makes it easier to do so after new gimbal is installed, especially on older, 'crusty' couplers.
Also, the one link here that describes installing the gimbal with 3" PVC is a little misleading (at least in my case). Using it to drive in bearing does NOT get it in all the way. I had to use an additional 2 7/8 OD spacer to drive it home.
