Couldn't edit my previous post but the quicksilver showed up today and its dimensions were identical to the Sierra so above where I said the fit wasn't good enough it identical to the quicksilver except much more pliable. I looked at the tungsten gaskets picture close up. It arriving friday? ( I guess that is why everyone tries quicksilver and Sierra they show up the next day) It appears to have the same blue bead as the Sierra vs the orange on quicksilver. I may attempt installing the sierra. nothing else to do right now.

On a side note my skeg has developed a nasty bow over time. I watched all these you tube video on how to straighten. Holy hell skegs are strong, i got it better but stopped as i feared if i hit it any harder it would snap off. I did apply some propane heat i would guess 250F, didn't want to affect the metallurgy. Since drive is off i just used a 2x4 on back side to rest skeg on and went from 16 oz hammer to 3 lb engineers hammer and beat on other side. lol!!

Success. I cleaned outdrive l surfaces and then lightly roughed with 320 grit.. Installed the Sierra torqued to 40 ft-lbs no slip. in fact the top was a little recessed. It was so much more pliable than the quicksilver. I would have tried the quicksilver gasket but with a hurricane possibly coming to Houston I wanted to get boat back to storage. I think 50% of my issue was the paint i applied, maybe to slippery. That combined with a marginal design and a pathetic gasket you see what I got.

On a side note don't be a Dumb asss like me. I tied the trim cylinders up when taking boat back to storage on Saturday. When i picked it up today on way home one came loose and dragged. A little damage. It ruined the two bushings, on c-clip.

I am 100% positive the sealant bead was the issue on quicksilver. There are gasket on eBay without the sealant strip but they are getting harder and harder to find. I should get my Tungsten later this week but I called them and she said they do have the sealant strip. We shall see.

Like i said earlier. 59% of time in Nuclear industry when working on something a problem is created not related to the first problem. Case in point my trim cylinder.......

I’ve used Sierra gaskets for the outdrive to pivot housing on my Cobra for years and coat both sides with OMC gasket sealer or Permatex Aviation and have never had a problem even with the boat being moored in salt water for a six month season....

Went out on my buddies 2007 Searay 195 yesterday. Mecruiser 5.0 carb (simplest engine i have ever seen in my life, carburetor, distributor, coil ) Engine ran like champ. I told him about my gasket issue we get the boat back on trailer I go to show him where my gasket failed on his outdrive and BINGO his was out identical to mine on side and top rolled, gasket rolled out. I said don't buy the quicksilver gaskets.

On a side note I was shocked at the difference between a 195 and 205. The 205 appears 35% bigger even though only a foot bigger. The 195 appears to have modules they bolted and sealed in like the dashboard area and glove compartment area. swim platform bolted on, the 205 is one continuous mold. Both great boats but his will outlast mine 10 to 1 since his engine has about 100 less components than my Catalyst MPI.

Rick Stephens nailed the solution get the Tungsten. No way to fail, nothing the gasket can slip on. I ordered 10 that should be a lifetime supply. Using one on my buddies boat today.
