Gauges Dont work

I have a 1985 Force 125. The only gauge that works is the gas gauge, and its not even hooked to the motor directly. There is a tach and a speedometer, and a Lawrence bluewater Water temprature gauge. None of these work. WHY?

I think you need to specify a little more... but check teh wires leading to the tach.. And look at the speedo and see if it has a hose on it, and look on your transom for what its connected to (probably a wheel dealie or a fin with a hose coming off it. check those tubes/wires.

Billy_Bumba69,
The gas gauge is not hooked directly to your motor/outboard. It's hooked to the sending unit on the top of your fuel tank.

On the tach and speedometer, look at all the connections and get yourself an OHM Meter and check levels.. that's the first place to start.

If you need an aftermarket tach, you can get one (20 pole) from Teleflex. I believe you can get a new speedometer there too.

Good luck,
Tim

Re: Gauges Dont work

If none of them work, there is probably one loose wire that affects them all. I haven't seen your gauges but if you look on the back, one of the posts should have a "G" (ground) beside it. This post needs a good connection to ground. Another post will likely have an "I" (ignition) beside it. Make sure that it gets 12V power when the ignition is on.
