Gear lube dipstick 1990 Donzi GT250 Cobra 5.7

I was looking for a replacement dipstick for the drive upper case gear lube and in the process i noticed that all the diagrams show the dipstick for my drive with the gear lube level mark towards the bottom of the dipstick.
My old dipstick has the fill level mark on the dipstick towards the top of the dipstick.
So if i buy a replacement dipstick with the circular cutout towards the bottom I would have a lower level of gear lube than what I would have with my old dipstick.
Can anybody shed any light on this as I am a bit confused.

Well I did some checking and found that indeed someone had installed the incorrect dipstick into my drive.
I have since ordered the correct dipstick and all is well.
