I have a yamaha 2003 130hp. Would I be able to use mercury gear lube for the gear case. My friend gave me a gallon of it and would be nice to use it. Also do you know the size of the fill hole? Thanks

Re: Gear lube question

I would expect any specified Marine Lower Unit Oil would be fine, including the Mercury oil, although some of the larger outboards do require special lubricants for their lower unit gear boxes.

You can get a pump at Walmart with the correct threaded fitting to fill your lower unit....

Re: Gear lube question

The lube should be just fine....as long as it it GL-5 rated. Like Robert said, the gear oil pump is a great investment...so much easiier. Be sure to change the seals on your fill plug.
