I have a 1996 3.0 mercruiser inboard engine and there is a hose attached to the reservoir for the gear oil. The other end of the hose isn't attached anywhere. What does the loose end connect to on the transom and how do I attach it? I'm not seeing a place for it on the transom.

Being an 3.0L engine/Alpha application yours may or may not have had an oil hose fitting installed form new as it was sometimes an option to have it in the earlier years but should it be there or someone fully installed the oil system then at the rear of the middle area of the transom assembly ought to be a fitting that looks like item 5 attached to item 1 of the following parts diagram, https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/30860/1942/230

And/or at placement B_8
