hi all, i have this Yamaha f150 that i replaced the cables on because the jackets were split. i installed OEM YAMAHA replacement cables on a

Yamaha - Right Side Flush Mount Control Box - 6X3-48206-10-00. the cables are the same in all aspects.

now when i start it up, its in neutral and it sounds fine but when it is put into fwd or rev, the lower end sounds like it is between gears. the fluid in the lower end is fresh, last fall, i have only run the boat in neutral to winterize it. now this spring, i open the boat up, pull the cables, replace them, same amount of turns on each cable end. everything lines up but i get this sound in full fwd and full rev.
i say full but i know, there is either in gear or not in gear. its not like i can put it slightly in gear and throttle up,. its in or its not.
it actually sounds smoother when it is just out of neutral and 1st engaging. it makes the sound when the shift assy is fully engaged.

the way i read to set it up was that the line on the metal frame should line up with the blue shift pin linkage. which i did, box in neutral, arm in line with the frame.

here are 2 video links, the emphasis is on the fact that there is so much more travel on the shift linkage after it engages and i do not know what the heck to do to resolve this

take pics of that blue thing when in forward and reverse and post them

disconnect to shift cable and manually move the linkage into foward and reverse to see if that makes the lower unit go into gear.
does the cable move the linkage to those same spots?

I do not see where the cable shifts the linkage, so I have no idea where it moves the linkage.
seems you maybe moving the linkage a lot farther than the cables will, why are you doing that?

im one person, cant hold the camera at the motor and shift it as well.
the throw is full ,fwd & rev.
when the linkage is connected , i put the shifter into gear and that noise appears. if i move the shifter only partially into gear does the noise not show up. but you cant shift a control box partially. its only full on, full off, full reverse.
