I have an 76 bass boat with a offwhite/gray/blue, I did some work on the boat and accedently sanded some of the gelcoat, the orginall color, minus the glossy/wet look. as you can imagin this old boat is very faded and weathered, can sading the first layer of the gelcoat, then apply some wax or restorer to get the wet look be a good or bad idea?

thanks, thomas

Re: gelcoat layers???

BIT, I have block sanded an entire hull with 400,600, and 1000 grit wet/dry paper, then machine buffed with 3m hd compound, then waffle pad with 3m finese. worked good, lots of work, and you need first to have enough gelcoat to work with. all i can say is try a small spot and see if it works for you ........good luck........

unless you just like sanding and eating dust, try some Marine penetrol first. there's a thread by that name in the boats forum right now. after you get color back, just wax it real good.
