Re: TRIM ON A 79 CRESTLINER CRUSADER 775

Re: TRIM ON A 79 CRESTLINER CRUSADER 775

Welcome to the board.
One thing to know is all caps is considered yelling and many will not respond. Much nicer if you use lower case and only caps where they should appear. Also please HELP !!!!!!!!! not Liked. Actually this is pretty standard all over the Web.

Ok
Triming a boat pretty much the same with all planning boats that have trim. To lower the bow trim the outdrive or outboard all the way in under the boat. To raise the bow trim the outdrive or outboard out away from the boat.

All planning hulls when you start out and gain speed the bow will push a wave this wave will cause the bow to rise. As you gain even more speed the bow will continue to rise and will be hard to see over. When you gain enough speed usually 18 to 22 MPH the boat will overtake the bow wave and the stern will rise and bow come down. This is the planning speed for your boat and load. When you start planning the boat speed will increase without adding more power. You will also use less fuel.

Once on plane now the motor's trim will help you adjust your ride. Trimming out will raise the bow and increase your speed. If the bow starts to bounce up and down then trim the motor in until the bounce just stops. This is usually a good place cruse over a long diatance. If the water is rough then trimming bringing the bow down a little more will likely inprove your ride but use more fuel.

Getting on plane trim the motor in under the boat. I advance the throttle to near full throttle and watch my RPMS when I reach about 2800 rpms my boats will be at a planing speed. Once I reach 2800 rpms I start reduceing the throttle to stay at 2800 rpms while the boat still gains speed. This method will get you up on plane fast with very little bow rise.

My boat will atcually plane at 10 Mph because I have bennett trim tabs. However I usually do not use them until get on plane.

Ask you questions and what problem you are having and I am sure you will get lots of replys.

I would be helpful is you tell us what brand and type motor you have. It a 79 but is it a outboard or I/O. Is it OMC, Mercruser, Vovo.

Some motor have a seperate trim switch and tilt switch.
Some use the trim switch on the throttle handle. In the trim range outdrive moves in and out slow then in the tilt range it moves faster.

take the safe boaters Course, make sure you have all the coast guard equipment. start slow and get the feel of your boat. we all have to do that with a new boat, as each handles differently. practice docking during the week when the docks are not crowded. practice launching and retriving. have your boat ready to launch before you get in line to launch. the best way to get yelled at the ramp is back in, and start loading coolers, skis, and that crap, have your stearn strap off, plug in. etc. it is best to start your engine at home on muffs, to make sure it will start and pump water. nothing worse than to have a dead battery on the ramp.

I have a I/O mercruser 140hp, does that help?

I not much of a merc man but many others are. Your first two post were about trimming but you edited it so much you wiped out your questions.

Like I say I and mot much of a merc man but other will let us know if I get it wrong.

You wanted to know where the trim switch is. All the Merc I/O I have seen the trim switch is on the throttle handel. when running in the trim range it moves the motor in and out slowly to trim your ride. When raising with the motor off at a certain point it will pick up speed and be a tilt switch to raise the prop up so it will not hit the ground when trailering.
