Hello all. I have a question concerning re-installing the Diesel Genset in am 88 Sea Ray 300 Sundancer.
The manual says the top of the genny needs to be at least 10" above the waterline(in the bilge).
When I removed Geny to rebuild, the PO had a couple of Cedar (or something) 2x4's nailed and screwed together, with lagbolts screwed into plywood decking that sitting on top of the stringers. I removed both blocks easily by had. Really crappy job.
So, Now I am ready to reinstall genset and I am looking for ideas to mount.
I have thought of trying to find a couple of Aluminum I beams, but not very easy to find locally.

I was considering building some stringer-like-blocks, fiberglassed and/or bolted to the platform and into the stringers below. (appropriately sealed, ofcourse)

The Blocks need to be approx 6" tall. The distance from (genny) motor mounts are 14" apart.

Any suggestions?

Re: Genset Height

I would take a look at the way some lounge seats are mounted. They are usually constructed with a box attached to the deck. You could make a box like frame attached and actually have storage access in one end to keep some generator supplies.

Re: Genset Height

Good Idea. I am drawing up in CAD now to see how it looks, fits.

Thanks for the idea.
