I have a few times. It was fun for me and the wife too. I used a Navman GPS attached to my Palm M505 with some software loaded. It's not the ideal setup for Geocaching but would do in a pinch.
If you've never heard of it, check it out here: http://www.geocaching.com/
It's a great way to see interesting things and spend time with your family. Very educational for kids too imo.
There are probably dozens of cache sites close to you. Many are accessible only by boat too.
I can't recommend any GPS specifically, but others might.
My wife and I do the Geocaching thing often. It's a lot of fun and can be a great workout. I purchased a basic Garmin GPS. It doesn't have all the included maps and doodads but works great for us when geocaching, since that's all we use it for.
I just bought a Lowrance Ifinder H20c. It's completely waterproof and has an entire section in the owners manual about geocaching, so I'm sure it would be good for it. I know it's accuracy is sometimes down to the foot. Once I was standing on my driveway and marked a location. I then walked away from it, and when I turned around, with each step I took, the GPS would take one foot off the distance to the target.
I use a Garmin Rhino 530cx no maps loaded but it does awsome, father-in-law has a older rhino and the ability to locate each other is nice, specially if hes out fishing and im tubing in diffrent area's i can just poll all rhino user's and it shows me his location and i can just go to him also has a built in radio that works fairly good in the open.+
We've started a team based on our online gaming clan.
We've been using my Garmin GPSMap76C and it works great. I would suggest anyone starting this to use a Garmin as the garmin Communicator program is very handy when looking for these.
Well, here is one from the past. Did a search to make sure I didn't repeat the same thread.
Just got into this. The wife and I found our first one over the past weekend. It seems like a lot of fun so far. We went looking for 3 but so far only found the one. Were using a Garmin c340 street piolet and it seems to get the job done. I think it will be better making finds after the snow is gone.
Just thought I would throw this out again......
That one looks like it's specialized for driving navigation. How well does it work when you're on foot looking for coords out in the woods or on a lake?
Been doing it for a few years. Several Hundred finds to my name. It kind of comes in spurts with me< i"ll do it hard for a few weeks then it dies off, then hit it hard again then it dies off.
There use to be some here in Ohio that you had to do with a boat, it was a great excuse to go fishing. I even hid a series down in Mohican that you could all get too while taking one of the popular canoe trips. It was pretty cool.
I use a Garmin 60CSX, and my Blackberry Curve 8330 for paperless caching.
