Re: get rid of myplugs

Welcome to Iboats, cwilt!

Could you please describe your engine a little? Preferably HP, how many cyls, serial number/year? And maybe what spark plugs you've got in there now? It's a pretty popular change on OMC V-4 engines, but not so popular on mercs. It may not be possible depending on your engine.
If I told you that the spark jumps between the electrode and the shell of the plug, not the piston, would that make you feel any better?

your ign. don't fire to thr top of the piston like you stated it, it fires to the outside of the plug

cwilt:

Your motor runs a little rough due to the 3 cylinder design.

I've got the same motor and it is a common complaint. If you do a search on Merc 90 hp you will see a lot of suggestions to smooth it out like enriching the top cylinder.

I suspect that your piston tops are not as dirty as black. Dark pistons are normal.

What oil are you running?

Joe
