Trying to get the trigger off of my mercury. I am down to the trigger but cannot get the 8 holed part off of the end of the shaft. Is this just pressed on? do I need a better type of puller? any help will be appreciated

thanks

What you have left is the flywheel hub. (you DID mark the flywheel for proper realignment before you separated it from it's hub - RIGHT?)

You were supposed to pull the entire flywheel assembly with the correct puller - it threads down into the center of the flywheel hub. Most dealers will pull it for a nominal fee. Or buy the correct puller - they are on tight.

Push in the 8 little plastic pieces and push downward and the trigger will release from the linkage arm. You might need a helper to help each of the concentric pieces inward then downward. Don't push too hard or it will break. Mine took about 5-10 minutes of playing around with it to take it off.

I used a regular harmonic balancer puller from Harbor Freight for $10. I pulled two screws from the hub and threaded the pullers screws in there. I did use my impact gun to screw down the puller though. I was really on there. It took a while for it to come off but it did. No worries about messing the flywheel up. The hub is plenty strong enough to handle it.
