Re: Getting winter Tires?

Blizzaks, Nokia, Dunlop Graspics........ I run blizzaks on my small fwd car and they are great, regular radial snows on my 4runner and aggressive snows on my plow truck.

I have actually run all three brands above and found the blizzaks and the dunlop graspics hold up better after multiple seasons.

Have wheels for both my car and 4runner and just do the swap every year.

What the heck have you been smoking or drinking ???? We are in the midst of summer!!!!! Got any extra to send? :D

Blizzaks,

Ayuh,.... Most Definitively the Stickiest tires out there,...
But soft rubber does wear quicker on dry roads...

Deb got 2 seasons from a set on her PT cruiser,...
The drives will need replacing this winter, the other 2 have atleast another season in 'em...

Blizzaks or Hankooks. We've got 3 winters out of a set of Blizzak WS-50's on one of our small cars before getting down to the regular tread. Heavier vehicles will wear them out really quick.

Just about all winter tires work well. What you have to consider is, are you looking to drive mostly on ice or snow. There is quite a big difference between snow tires and ice tires.

Re: Getting winter Tires?

Thanks so much for everyone's pointers so far. Well they do a good job of getting the roads cleared. I just noticed with my Cross Terrains that I only slipped a couple times and I don't think I slipped at all the previous year. I got my MDX w/ new tires in Dec of 2009, now I am down to 5/32 and I am worried about the tread. I like the tire, but they are so god awfully expensive, $200 a pop. I would like to get some cheaper for the winter time and get a couple more summers out of my Cross Terrains. I like the X-Terrains, they ride nice and are quite, but for $200 a pop with only 22k miles at 5/32, I think I want to consider another option.

You might be ok with a new set of cross terrains. For some reason the import cars get the michelins that are made in korea. Normally I wouldn't care, but the set that was on my wifes kia Sorrento lasted about 20K miles. Found a lot of references to the Michelin X terrains that were made in Korea having a much softer tread, which made sense considering the reviews on tire rack were pretty glowing about tread life.

I took a look at the tire and I see "Made in U.S.A", I wonder if it is my driving style =\

How can you be thinking of winter tires? We haven't even got any summer yet!!!! The sun has finally been shining for two days now. Water all around us is still freezing.
