Gimble Bearing Help

I have recently purchased a 1967 Starcraft with a 120 outdrive and a 120 Mercruiser motor. Today I pulled the gimble bearing and have a few questions. I have seen bearings pulled but all it has been was the beaerings. In the pics below I know that D is the bearing itself. I am guessing that A and B are shims to install C, just not sure what C is. Is what I am saying correct? Also do new gimble bearings come with all this stuff?

Here is a pic for anyone that needs it without the lines and soforth.

Thanks for all and any help in advance.

I don't know as a matter of fact, but I believe new gimbal bearings come with a crush collar to replace that stuff.

that's my best guess anyway.

I thought there was two different models. Your might be the older version that was in pieces. The one I just put in was all together.

i thought about that too so i looked it up in a drive application list. '67 120 was the first year of a mc-1 w/ the 120hp. if it's a '66 it'd be a 1b ez which may be the gimble brg. that is in pieces..

Re: Gimble Bearing Help

I was not sure of what to do as I have not seen this before. The bearing came out then the bearing carrier and then the shims and this seemed kind of strange to me. Thought that all of that would be in the bearing carrier. It also seems that there is no way to grease the gimble bearing, is this correct? The gimble bearing seems that it is a sealed bearing and that would make sence that there would be no grease channel.

Re: Gimble Bearing Help

The older units were not greasable ,had a plasric housing and brass shim stock. you can substitute the new style with the tolerance ring The new bearings come sealed but if you have a greasable one you need something like this made from a old tolerance ring.

Would a new bearing come with the shim stock and the plastic carrier or what? Someone told me that the new style would fit but am not sure to do or buy for that matter.

no shimming, gets installed with the tolerance ring, just line it up and drive it in place.
