Re: GLM Manifolds

I believe dry joint manifolds don't tranfer water from the manifold to the riser. The manifolds and risers have hoses that cool them separately.

Yes,

there's no path for water to get into the exhaust via the riser-manifold bolt-together connection

Thanks guys. Pretty much what I figured. So where does the exhaust go, all out the drive? Why does the water go through the exhaust anyway, for cooling only?

Re: GLM Manifolds

What are "holidays?"

And what are "dry joint" manifolds?

Sorry about that, A holiday is a bare spot or in this case an area that still has paint on it. Kinda like when your painting and go light in areas the paint took a holiday.

Yep it keeps the exhaust components and temperature down. My boat has a closed cooling system with antifreeze on the the engine side, the point where the riser bolts to the manifold has a block-off plate to prevent mixing. The seawater and antifreeze run counter flow through a heat exchanger for cooling. The seawater only goes through the riser and out the drive

Re: GLM Manifolds

I am doing a center-riser conversion on my 351W when I get it back from the machine shop. I believe the kit uses Osco's, but I'll be sure and check the mating surfaces with a straight-edge just to make sure. Now all I have to do is figure out how I'm gonna mount the water separator and starter solonoid brackets. Maybe I can just drill and tap the new manifolds.

Thanks! I have a closed cooling system on my boat too, which I am grateful for! It has it's original, 32 year old 5.7 in it!

Re: GLM Manifolds

Sorry CascoBay didn't mean to turn this into the Hijack zone

Hey skargo its original in my 1984 too, I was actually thinking of making my own risers out of sch 10 stainless and a solid 3/8 - 1/2" thick mating plate to prevent any chance of leakage or even welding the passages closed at the surface on the manifolds :D
